Monday in the Making

It has been a little while since I made headbands, so I whipped one up one evening...

I used up-cycled denim for the base flower and then some blue and white floral, reclaimed material for the inner flower. A blue button is stitched into the centre of the flower and the flower is stitched onto a shiny, white stretchy band. This item is currently in store (click here for more information).

I have also been scrambling and matching up t-shirts in my stash for my new projects. I have developed patterns for each. Just need to get going, cutting out the materials and sewing them up. I would love to spend a big chunk of time on these...

My new order of yarn arrived during the week. Some of the yarn will be used for a new project and there is some yarn to finish off a project. Hopefully I will finish it off this week...

Monday in the making

August is a busy month... Our family has a number of birthdays (as well as a few friends of ours) in August. This year I am determined to make handmade gifts for friends and family for such celebrations, hence August is proving to be a very busy month!

Besides that, I decided to make a spontaneous gift for a work colleague who has been going through a tough time. I had some inspiration for this headband a little while ago, but I decided to put my plans into action and make this for a gift. This is the result...

I wanted to create a stranded, crochet headband, embellished with a crochet flower. I am playing around with correct sizing, as this headband is designed for an adult head, however, I think this style of headband would also look sweet on a child. Something to work out...

I love the look of the three strands, coupled with the simplicity of the flower and bead. I was tempted to use a blend of colours, but quite like the whole headband in the same colour. I can't wait to try out more ideas...

On the list:
  • More gifts :)
  • Father's Day ideas
  • Playing around with these crochet ideas

Monday in the making

Flower hair accessories have been quite popular in the store lately and I needed to add a bit more stock. Instead of adding one, solitary flower to a clip or headband, I decided to make a 'posy'. This is the result...

I have also been busy designing and creating a crochet headband that can be used as an ear warmer as well as a wide headband...

I love the colour and I love the style, however, I need to get the sizing right. I have had to adjust this band a couple of times and it still is slightly too big. I think I need to take into account the stretchiness of the yarn. I will keep experimenting and show my progress. I want to make one as a gift, so I need to do some perfecting. Mr T wanted me to post a photo of me wearing my ear warmer... well...ok...but I am no model...

On the list:
  • A couple of gifts and cards to make
  • Flower clips
  • Bibs (I would love to spend time on these as they have been on the list for a while)
  • Necklaces
  • Just had another idea...
Have a great week!

Monday in the making

I had a bit of a find on the weekend...

...whilst sourcing t-shirts for some more up-cycled creations, I stumbled upon a bit of a stash of craft supplies. I managed to find some press-studs, some lace and some eyelets. The biggest find of all was some small lengths of small floral patterned fabric.

I had to make a few headbands over the weekend and I couldn't resist the urge to make some out of my newly found fabric. After washing it (it didn't take long to dry on such a hot day) I made up a couple of lacy headbands. Here is the result...

I decided to make the top 'layer' of the fabric flower slightly shorter than the bottom. I used some lace in a rosette in the middle, topped off with a button. The flower has then been stitched onto shiny, soft elastic. I think that these headbands have a bit of a vintage feel about them. All components of my headbands are stitched, rather than glued for durability. These headbands are now available in my Madeit store.

On the list:
  • I would love to get into some cushions.
  • Make more special 3-Dimensional cards (will show you my work from the weekend later on in the week).
  • I have a new design that I would love to try...

Monday in the making

Last weekend I made up a new up-cycled t-shirt headband design.

Over the weekend, I added two new colour combinations. A red and black combination...

...with red double bow, black yo-yo, red button and all sewn onto a black elastic headband. I also made up a candy stripe, pink and white combination...

...with white and pink striped double bow, pink yo-yo, striped button and sewn onto a pink elastic headband.
Once again, these colour combinations were determined by the t-shirts I could source.
Is there a particular colour combination that you would like to see using this headband style?

On the list:
  • fabric flower headbands
  • cushions

Monday in the making

Over the weekend I did some experimenting...

I had in mind to make a brooch, but in the end I made this bow design into a headband. I am enjoying working with up-cycled materials, hence I used up-cycled t-shirts for most of this creation.

I know that I have been showing a number of these necklaces lately, but I made a number of these over the weekend and I love the colour, the flower and the photos of this necklace. The colour is a smokey grey and the flower has a diamante in the middle.

On the list:
  • Continue to work on headbands.
  • Cushions.
  • My crochet project
Thanks for looking!

Monday in the making

As mentioned in previous posts, it has been a rather busy week or two, preparing for a market. Here are some of my most recent items...

I had a lovely time photoshooting some of my products yesterday, in particular, these tie headbands, my latest product. These soft headbands are designed to tie around a baby, toddler, child or even adult's head. They look particularly gorgeous for newborn photoshoots. They could also be used for special occasions.

I also finished stitching this country lass. Introducing 'Jill'...she is solo at the moment as I am currently stitching her partner, Jack. Her body is handstitched with felt, wears a red and white gingham shirt, calico pants and brown felt boots. Her look is complete with a beige, felt hat. All items are stitched on.

I am itching to get into my 'Tupsy Tees'. I was so disappointed that I could not get a range completed before the market on the weekend. However, they are definitely on my list to complete. I am also  desiring to add to my cushion and canvas collection. I had a number of designs ready to roll, but then the markets arrived and have not had a chance to get back to them. Lots of ideas on my list!

Have a super week!

Monday in the making

There is a market coming up and I am busy creating. Here are some of my latest creations...

I have made up a range of hair pins - either with an antique, silver or gold base, embellished with a coloured rose. So sweet!

Similarly, I made up three collections of rings. These rings fit most and are adjustable. One set is embellished with a coloured rose (as above). Another set are coloured filigree rings that are embellished with a small coloured rose. The final set has an antique base that are embellished with a square 'stone'.

I have turned my newest fabric flower design into clips (as above) and as headbands (below). I love how these have turned out. Very glamorous!

Better get back to making! I hope to show you more soon...

Monday in the making

Over the past week I have been making up tutus for an order. Unfortunately, I did not photograph it, hence I can't show it to you...sorry. However, it was an order for two pink tutus, very similar to this one:

I have also experimented with new fabric flower design. I bought up some fabric over the weekend and have created this:

I am so pleased with how this design has turned out. I am now going to make a batch of these floral designs as headbands and/or clips. I particularly love these - I love the purple colour, matched with the bright green. It reminds me of a passionfruit flower. I can't wait to try the same design out with other colours.

My aim this week is:

  • Make up some more flower headbands.
  • Get my 'Tupsy Tees' t-shirt designs going.
I have a market in a fortnight's time and I want to boost up my stock with these new goodies. I also have something else arriving in the post...I'm constantly creating!

Thanks for stopping by!

Monday in the making

It was great to have to extra time to spend on creating...

Whilst away, I finished stitching some dolls together, made a small selection of tutus and finished off my 'Black & White' selection of headbands. It was also great creating with someone else, chatting and crafting. It's always interesting to find out what others do, and to learn a few hints along the way.

As mentioned in my last post, I made up a tutu especially for my niece to check for size and look. I am pleased to say that she liked it and everyone in the room thought it also looked sweet. As we were surrounded by River Red Gums on our holiday, it made a perfect setting for a photo shoot with my niece in her tutu. I was then inspired to make a selection whilst away and add it to the Tupsy Turvy product range. As you can see, they make cute photo props and they are also perfect for imaginative play.

I finally finished off my latest headband selection. I aim to release it on my Facebook page tomorrow, however, here is a sneak peak...

Currently, I am working on the clothes for my latest doll set and I have been inspired to make another item. I visited the craft shop today to purchase supplies to give it a go (I also bought more tulle for more tutus).

I have also had fun taking photos, downloading photos and editing them over the past week. A big thanks to Mr T for introducing me to a new photo editing program.

Love it!

Monday in the making

A variety of crafts have been undertaken in the Tupsy Turvy workshop...

Firstly, the heroic partner of 'Dean' is progressing. She has limbs and ponytails. The next step is to make her bodice and then I can sew the limbs to her and fill her with polyfil. I can't wait to see her 'come to life'.

Mr T and I have had to do some travelling over the last couple of days and when I travel, I get busy knitting.
I have a scarf that is progressing nicely. As you can see, it is knitted in one of my favourite colour combinations - 'watermelon' colours - pink and sage green. I have a design twist in my mind. The scarf needs to be a little longer and then I will try it out. Hopefully it will work out.

I also packed my headband making items. I had visions of making most of my newest selection whilst away. Well...time got the better of us and I ended up making...one! Anyway, my selection is underway. I hope to get a few more headbands made so that my selection may be 'released'.

I hope to get more craft completed this week!

Monday in the making

As mentioned, I've been busy making headbands. This is my 'Pink, White and Purple' selection.

Funky purple patterned headband

 Purple and black headband

 White tulle headband

 White satin headband

 Soft rose pink headband

 Satin pale pink headband

Some of these headbands are embellished with buttons, some have diamantes added to them. Four of these headbands are sold already, but I can make more as I have more of the same fabric. They will be one of a kind as the embellishments won't be exactly the same. I've enjoyed making this selection so much that I plan to release selections of headbands regularly.

What colour would you like to see?

Weekend Wonders - Yielding to craft

This weekend was pretty jam packed with assessment work and preparation work...however, I did have some time for fun.

Firstly, I managed to finish off the headband selection that I have been working on over the last couple of weeks. I made six headbands that are either pink, white, purple or a combination of these colours. I have loved working with different fabrics to create a 'shabby chic' type of flower. I have also liked choosing buttons or diamante to highlight the colours and features of the flower. These flowers were then stitched onto handmade headbands that were either white, black or pale pink. I will post this selection up on my blog tomorrow (or you could have a sneak peak at them on Tupsy Turvy Designs Facebook page here).

I also can't resist crafty inspiration when I walk into a craft shop. I had to get some more soft elastic to finish the headbands, hence the visit to the craft store over the weekend. Whilst in there, I spotted some pom-pom/snowball yarn (on sale) in gorgeous colours. There was also a shawl with beautiful, big buttons that was knitted in the same yarn, which looked simple, but gorgeous. It would add warmth and dress up a dress or shirt/pant set for evening wear, but it was also simple enough to throw over a top for casual wear. I looked at the tag (which stated the amount of yarn, stitches and needle size) and bought what was required to try my own version of a similar type of garment. So...I spent some time this weekend starting this new project. I figured out that I should have purchased longer needles, as the stitches are a little squished and it is a little hard to see how it is all working out, however, so far, I think it is working out ok.

Whatever you got up to on the weekend, I hope that it was enjoyable!

Monday in the making

Suggestions...I love them.

I love to know what customers like and what they would like to see. In the midst of my doll making, a customer made a request for headbands. This was great because I had got to a stage where I was not sure whether people liked the look of my headbands. I personally find them comfortable, but I was unsure whether people liked the colours and style.

So, over the week, I have been busy making fabric flowers for headbands. This is the result so far:

A pastel pink, satin flower, embellished with buttons and a diamonte. A funky, patterned fabric flower, embellished with buttons. A lavendar, cotton fabric flower, embellished with buttons and a diamonte. I still have more flowers in the pipeline. The next stage is to stitch them to matching soft elastic. I will post up my selection when they are completed.

Weekend Wonders - On the road again

The weekend has gone very quickly by...

Over the weekend we travelled to celebrate the 21st birthday of twins in our family. Once again, I put the travel time to good use by knitting. On my last trip to visit family, I began knitting a scarf, so this trip was a continuation of scarf knitting. Besides crafting, it was wonderful to catch up with family members, although it was only a very brief visit.

I also managed to squeeze in some time to make some fabric flowers which will be turned into pretty headbands. I am making a selection, ready for sale.

In all the time in between, it was spent catching up on housework around the house or work in general.

I hope that you had a lovely weekend!

Weekend Wonders - Getting things done

I don't like treading water...

When work begins again, I feel like I am chasing my tail - battling to catch up with things. Work wise, I feel like I am just beginning to get on top of things -  crossing things off of my list.

I have had a few things to catch up on craft wise, however, today I managed to do a bit of finishing off. Let me share with you...

I managed to finish off an order for a black/grey 'Schauser' Bag Buddy. I can't wait to get it posted out.

It has been a while since I added a new product to my store, therefore I spent some time this afternoon making up a new Cutie Bug headband.

This headband is now available in my store.

I also made up a congratulations card for the birth of a baby boy of friends of mine. All in all, a rather productive day.

Did you make anything this weekend?

Weekend Wonders - A new year

Happy new year!!??

I can't help but feel a little melancholy about the New Year. Time seems to tick past so fast, however, I know I just need to accept that I can't stop time. Instead I am thankful for the positive experiences of 2011 and need to make the most of the time given in 2012.

2011 saw the beginning of 'Tupsy Turvy Designs' (thanks to the encouragement of my sister in law and my husband). As the old year ticked away I pondered about some aims or goals for Tupsy Turvy Designs in 2012. One thing that I would like to do is to introduce Tupsy Turvy Designs to the markets. That means knuckling down and making more stock...not a bad thing, as I love crafting.

Another goal of mine is to add some seasonal stock - some items for Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Christmas, etc. That will need some forward planning...

Over the Christmas/New Year period I have made the most of hot summer days and holidays and created a few more hair accessories...

I wish all my followers, my blog readers and my customers a Happy New Year filled with many blessings and opportunities.

Happy crafting!

Friday Thoughts - It's that time of year

It is that time of year...Mr T and I ventured out to do some last minute grocery shopping and there were cars and people everywhere. At least we didn't need to do too much shopping as I have tried to get a bit more organised and looked for some handmade items for gifts earlier on.

It is also that time of year to wrap up all the gifts and place them under the tree. We have had to put our presents in a box (not very festive I know!) as our little dog, Tupsqueak, enjoys ripping up cardboard and paper on the odd occasion. We didn't want to take any chances with the presents.

But... who is this amongst the presents??

Ahh... just a new creation of mine. This little beauty has been saved as a present, however, I am working on another to add to the shop. I can't wait to show you!

Something that I can show you is something that I have recently added to my shop is - 'Esther' headband.

I have some ideas for a range of headbands and this lady is No.3 so far - Jane, Cutie bug and now Esther. They will be available in different sizes and colours. I can't wait to get crocheting some more flowers. A full description of 'Esther' and more photos of her are available in my shop.

I am looking forward to crafting and relaxing over this Christmas break, reflecting upon the true meaning of Christmas. I hope that you and your family have a safe and happy time together during this Christmas season!
