Monday in the Making

Finally, the top coat has cured on my button jewellery and my chains have arrived... time to put both together...

This set of pendants are made with a purple, plum base with patches of grey mixed media art. This art work is then adhered onto the buttons and a glass like top coat is then applied. A twisted, wire loop is then created for each pendant and a silver plated (lead and nickel free) chain is looped through.

I hope to add some of these pendants to the store soon. To check out what is currently in stock, click here.

Monday in the Making

I love exploring different colour combinations. Lately, when I have found a colour combination I like, I make the paints up in bulk and use the same combination for a canvas, a set of cards and for some jewellery.

Well... it was time to discover a new colour combination and this time it uses a base of purple plum. I also decided that the first items I would make with this combination would be a set of pendants.

Here are just a few...

I made up the art work, attached it to my chosen buttons and have just added the glossy glaze. I will need to wait for it to cure before I add the hooks so that they can be attached to chains. My shipment of chains have just arrived so you will soon see these pendants (and the last set) added to my store. I have also got some lead and nickel free earring hooks on their way so that I can make some into earring sets.

Monday in the Making

Last week, I had a lot of fun experimenting with placing my art on buttons with the aim to turn them into pendants.

This week, I added the glossy top coat and added wire to add the finishing touches. I have been very pleased with the way that they turned out. Here are a few photos:

I am now awaiting some chains to place these pendants on.

Since I have loved working with the colour teal and had some teal paint leftover, I decided to make a mini canvas. Here is the result:

This mini canvas is constructed using various shades of teal with splashes of grey and navy blue. This canvas is made using various mixed media techniques including paint, paper, drawing and textural techniques.

This canvas is now available in store. To visit the store, click here.

Monday in the Making

I have thoroughly enjoy the time that I spend making my mixed media Art. I have created cards and canvases using this technique.

I've always wondered whether my Art could be displayed in different forms and over the weekend I began experimenting making my Art into pendants.

Currently, I am about half way through my experimental process, however, I am so pleased with how these pendants are turning out. I just need to add a little more detail and add a glassy top coat and then these pendants will be turned into necklaces. Hopefully the rest of my experiment works out well.

Monday in the Making

I have been determined to begin creating Christmas cards earlier, giving me a more relaxed and achieveable time frame to complete them in. In the past, it has been a little more stressful as I have left it until mid December before starting. This time round, though, I have started.

Over the week I have completed around 15 cards, however, I also added some general greetings to make some everyday greeting cards with the same colour scheme.

These cards will be added to the store very soon. To check out what is in store, click here.

Monday in the Making

I have had a little extra time over this past week to spend on some creating. I have been busy finishing off a crochet project and I have started a new project...

It seems that everytime that Christmas time rolls around, I am in a mad rush to create cards and gifts. Therefore, this year I decided to make a start early. Most of this set will be made into Christmas cards, however, there are some that are going to be made into general greeting cards. Some will be for my personal use, some will be added to the store.

I used a similar blue/red combination in my last canvas project and wanted to use a similar combination for a card set. Very happy with the progress so far...

Monday in the Making

It has been a very busy week. It is that time of the term again where due dates for assessments are quickly looming. Hence, activity in the studio has been minimal...

...however, after a mammoth effort on Saturday, I was able to take some time off from work and unwind with some creativity...

I am so close to finishing this project! Last Monday I showed the tree image that I created on the canvas. This weekend, I adhered all the pieces and added paint and a quote. I did a bit of drawing and highlighting. Just a few more steps to go...

For completed cards and canvases, check out my Madeit store (click here).

Monday in the Making

I simply love making my mixed media cards...however, I have been itching (for a little while now) to create a bigger canvas. I felt that it needed a tree...

This is a sneak peak at what has been created so far... The background is pretty well complete and consists of a blue and red based colour combination. I am now working on the tree, using a variety of recycyled materials. They are not necessary going to look like these original materials by the time I finish with them. After that stage is complete, it will be a matter of drawing in some details and adding my phrase.

Other completed mixed media products, including canvases and cards are in currently available in my store (click here)

Monday in the Making

I have finally finished my latest set of greeting cards...

I wanted to create a set of cards with a yellow base. I love the vibrant yellow, mixed with bright blue and grey.

Created on an upcycled collector card, each card uses paint, fabric, drawing, decoupage and textural techniques. Even though they use the same techniques, each card is unique, to make greetings personal.

This set is currently available in store (click here).

Monday in the Making

This weekend was quite full with sorting assessment items for work, however, I did manage to peck at my latest project during the week and a little over the weekend...

I thought that I would create another card set, this time using yellow as a springboard. I am loving this colour combination and hope to soon add the fabric and words, to complete them. The end is in sight for these little art works...

Monday in the Making

After a few sessions of making cards, I thought that I would concentrate on making another canvas...

I wanted this canvas to have a pink base, however, I didn't want it to be solely pink. I decided to add some light blue, a touch of orange, grey and a touch of pastel yellow to the palette.

At first, I thought that the pink background was a bit too harsh, however, once all the other colours and layers were added, the colours all worked well together.

I decided to make this canvas with the monogram 'A' and used layering techniques that include paint, paper and textural materials. Despite using the same techniques and colours, each canvas is unique due to the process it undergoes. Currently available at my madeit.com.au store..

Did you spot the owl? Canvases can be made with or without the owl...

Monday in the making

I have been enjoying making greeting cards using collector cards that have been transformed into mini works of Art. Earlier, I made a batch of cards with a sunset theme, using yellow, orange and red. I enjoyed creating them so much, that I made another batch, this time using a different colour scheme. Here is the result...

These are a couple of examples to show you. I wanted to use purple, so I used hues of this colour, teamed with pastel green and apricot. I love the result and I love their uniqueness. They are currently available in store.

I have also begun a new project. This one is going to be a mini canvas that will display a monogram...

I wanted to use pink and I wanted it to have a feminine feel, without it being to overwhelmingly pink. This photo shows the beginning of the background.

Monday in the making

I have enjoyed time to get back into some designing and creating after an extremely busy start to the year.

Lately, I have enjoyed applying my hand to some mixed media projects. These projects have consisted of recycled materials, paint and papers. I have completed a couple of canvases, however, I have applied the same techniques to cards. Here are some that are currently in my madeit.com.au store...

I enjoyed making a set of these cards so much, that I decided to start a 'batch' of cards using a different colour scheme. Here is a sneak peak...

Now to adhere this batch to cards...

In the making

This post is a little late as I was making some final touches last night... Here is the result...

This pink plushie uses my love of crochet which is transformed to make a 'blobby monster' toy. I love making granny squares, however, in this case I made a granny circle. The eyes are also crochet circles with sewn on embellishment. The crochet items are stitched onto the toy. This guy is made predominantly with materials that are reclaimed... turning craft materials that others no longer want, into something cute.

I have plans for this little creature...

I also made this card during the week. I have a few more cards to make this week...

Monday in the making

I hope that you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year break. It ended up being such a busy December, but I relished celebrating Christmas and spending time with family. I must have been pretty exhausted as it took me about a week to get over cough that I developed at the end of the year.

However, I have enjoyed time, refreshment and rest over the past fortnight and feel ready to get back into blogging and crafting. The store will be opened in about a week's time.

Over the holiday break I have been focusing on finishing a few outstanding projects. This was one of them...

It was such an achievement to finish this project as this rug has taken quite a few months to complete (admittedly, I have picked this project up and placed it down a few times). I love the zig-zag pattern. I made this rug out of pure wool - predominantly white with a touch of lemon yellow and denim blue. This rug was a special gift for a special little girl. I wanted a design that could be used while she is little, but could be used as a throw when she is older.

I already have another rug on the go in a different design... hope to share soon...

Monday in the making

I am loving up-cycling. I think it is because I love checking out various sources to find goodies to up-cycle. It is now getting to a stage (much to Mr T's delight) that I am visiting my sources every weekend to find out if there is something new. I also love that each item I find is unique... I go often, because there is a chance that it won't be there for long. I rejoice when I have little 'finds'. I then love the creative process - working out the character of the piece and developing it into a new item...

It has definitely been the case with these items. I found the scarf quite a while ago and used pieces of it to make fabric flowers. I then found the blue/green flower brooch. Immediately, I thought of an idea to merge the scarf and the brooch together. This is the result... a knotty, short necklace. Both of these items lent themselves to a thicker, short necklace, maybe to jazz up a plain outfit (eg. a little, black dress). I wanted the feature brooch to be slightly to one side. I also wanted to create a stranded, distressed, shabby chic look with the scarf, to add texture. This item is ready to be listed in my store... a little nervous as this is something entirely different from the items that I have made...

Monday in the Making

I've picked up the crochet needle quite a bit this week. I have just about finished a major crochet project and I have been trying to sneak a bit of time to spend on it to, so I can see it completed. However, I also created a couple of little projects...

I wanted to create a simple, yet sweet headband that could be worn by any age. I wanted the whole item to be the same colour, hence the same coloured flower with  matching button embellishment. This headband could be tied at the base of the neck, like a traditional headband, or it could be tied at the back of head to create a 'halo' type of headband. Intended for all day wear (for older children onwards) or these headbands would make lovely photography props. If you wish to find out more information, you can view the items in store here...

Monday in the Making

It has been a little while since I made headbands, so I whipped one up one evening...

I used up-cycled denim for the base flower and then some blue and white floral, reclaimed material for the inner flower. A blue button is stitched into the centre of the flower and the flower is stitched onto a shiny, white stretchy band. This item is currently in store (click here for more information).

I have also been scrambling and matching up t-shirts in my stash for my new projects. I have developed patterns for each. Just need to get going, cutting out the materials and sewing them up. I would love to spend a big chunk of time on these...

My new order of yarn arrived during the week. Some of the yarn will be used for a new project and there is some yarn to finish off a project. Hopefully I will finish it off this week...

Monday in the making

It was one of those weekends where I had a number of design ideas and I didn't know where to start. To begin with, I wanted to create a simple card set, complete with matching gift tags. I wanted to use parts of an old atlas that I purchased. I made up the set, but I thought the card faces needed something more. I played around with some painted images, however, I ended up adding quotes. This is the result...

As the images are black and white, I have used a neutral toned paper as a backing paper for both the cards and tags. I have added a splash of colour with a bright green insert to match the foliage feel of the images.

As for the other ideas, more to be shown soon...

Monday in the making

A couple of weeks ago, I made up a mini canvas for a very special showcase. I enjoyed using up-cycled t-shirt material and reclaimed material to create a decorative feature. I also enjoyed the chance to do some hand stitching. I had so much fun that I designed another mini canvas, this time,  one for the girls...

This canvas is made up of a large, red heart, that is hand stitched to a pink, floral fabric. It also contains three buttons, stitched up the top of the heart.

I have also been playing around with paper mache...

I had a bit of Christmas in mind when I made this. A paper base, covered in red and sealed, with black lettering spelling 'JOY'. It is decorated with three fabric flowers, with button embellishments, two made with satin, one with tulle. The flowers have rough, frayed seams to add to the rustic charm of the piece. A lacy bow is tied onto the handle.

What do you think?
